Hi Lolas
This month I read a nonfiction book which I really enjoyed. It is called "White Gold: The Extraordinary Story of Thomas Pellow and Islam's One Million White Slaves" by Giles Milton.
It tells how raiders from north Africa captured ships and raided the British coastal towns in order to capture slaves for their slave market. They captured ships from all countires including north America and I believe they raided the east coast of Canada. It is a fascinating tale and one that seems to have been forgotten in history. My own home town was raided and 37 people captured and taken into slavery. The various kings would send envoys to the raiders and sometimes managed to buy back slaves. Some people escaped, as did Thomas Pellow. I found it to be a good read, one of the best.

Hi Noreen,
I hope you will keep the name of the book handy the next time we decide the 2007 book list.
I thought I wrote something before about this post-maybe I didn't do it correctly and it was lost. Cheers!
