I am just blogging to prove that I can. A blog is a great way to communicate, it is like a giant notice board out in cyberspace with a piece of chalk hanging right there so that you too can make a comment.
I enjoyed our meeting on Friday. I had not read the book but Jeri had brought a Junior version of the life of B F and I sat there and glanced through it as we talked. I am glad that Ben freed his slaves. He and his wife could not get married because she was already married and could not prove her husband was dead (he had gone to another country and disappeared). Don't you wonder what kind of religion/society would have wanted a couple to live "in sin" rather than take a chance of committing bigamy? Are not both "sins" of about equal weight?

Hi Noreen,
I'm posting a comment so you won't feel you are talking to yourself! :). I'm about to send an e-mail to alert everyone to the Ben Franklin event and to let everyone know about the Christmas pot luck at Jeri's.
I still haven't finished the book on Ben. Will try before Dec 2nd.
Society does have rules and some need to be changed. I think Ben's wife should have been able to marry and figure out what should happen if the guy ever came back. Sad part was that her first husband left? Did she have children by him? I can't remember. We also need to consider that Ben left her first and only lived with her to make up for his original bad behavior of forgetting about the engagement altogether. He then left her again for long periods-maybe she really liked living alone! :). I didn't like that she wasn't good to William.
Happy Thanksgiving!
Love,
Mares
